If you hope to further your career in the real estate field, you will need to take advantage of real estate continuing education classes. In addition, licensing guidelines require that you complete a certain number of continuing education courses in order to renew your license.


Real Estate Continuing Education Requirements


The continuing education requirements for renewing your real estate license will vary according to the State you live. Even the county in which you work can affect the requirements you must complete. Whether or not you are renewing a salesperson license or a brokerage license is also a factor.

The real estate continuing education course you select must be approved by the Department of Real Estate first. Courses commonly approved are those in Agency, Ethics, Fair Housing, and Trust Fund Handling. For instance, in California a salesperson looking to renew his or her license for the first time must complete four 3-hour continuing education courses.

A salesperson or a broker that has already renewed his or her license once before has different guidelines to follow. For instance, in California they must complete 45 hours of real estate continuing education courses.


Choosing the Right Real Estate Continuing Education Courses


When it comes to real estate continuing education courses, it is important for you to find the one that is right for you. In general, there are three options available: online, in person, and self-study.

If you are good at keeping yourself on track, a self-study course might be the best option for you. The same is true with an online course. The difference between the two, however, is that an online course provides more opportunities for interacting with other students.

If you have a difficult time keeping yourself on task or if you simply like to interact with your instructor, an in person class is probably best for you. There is certainly value in being able to talk to someone face to face, and you may be more comfortable in that environment.
